What are the properties of maca? Is it aphrodisiac?

Maca

Like quinoa, maca is a plant growing between 3500 and 4200 meters of altitude, where nothing else take root. We can trace its presence in the alimentation of local populations thanks to the discovery of this plant in Pre-Inca rests, dating before 1600 bf JC. It’s a tuber fairly fleshy on which we only consume the root. The preparation of maca’s root can have different aspects: cakes, chips, flavor, drinks… Its alimentary and energetic properties are indisputable; rich in proteins and vital nutriments, it boosts the nervous system, memory and regulates the hormones.

It’s mainly this latter property that made speak of maca. Its nickname of “Peruvian ginseng” or “Peruvian Viagra” comes from the property it has; aphrodisiac and natural stimulant. It would be a cure for the impotency and male sterility. Scientific researches haven’t demonstrate a relation undisputable between the two but it don’t stop the Peruvians to consume it regularly, at breakfast or snack, in the hope of improve their performances…
